Grave Restorations
From its beginnings in 1985, the Victoria Police Historical Society has been involved
in a programme to restore the gravestones of former members of the Force. This has
been done where the member was of some importance in the history of the Force, and
the existing marker has fallen into disrepair. In some cases former members lie
in unmarked graves. On a number of occasions the Society has placed markers on such
graves, particularly in instance where the former policeman was of significant standing.
Some of these restorations have been funded entirely by the Society; in other cases
a local group—a local historical society or sometimes a serving police officer at
a local station—has undertaken the restoration, with a financial contribution from
the Victoria Police Historical Society.
As a result of this work, police graves have been restored in both metropolitan
and country cemeteries. Click the link below for a list of these graves, and their location.
